Accessibility vs. Universal Design
4:23 PM EDT 8/27/08
I'm finding more and more in my reading on this subject that Universal Design is a preferred term.

"Universal design is the term for creating products that can be used by the largest possible number of individuals, based not only on disability but also on factors such as literacy and culture." - Jane Vincent

My question is this: should we include or change the term Accessibility to Universal Design, or add it to the term? Or should it just be included in the overview page for that section?

Thanks for keeping on the pulse of this topic area, Emily. I would suggest that we "phase in" the term universal design, as it might be creeping up as a preferred term within the industry most closely involved with accessibility issues, but I don't know how well known it is within fields that must respond to accessibility requirements (such as the library field). So, let's make sure to tag content related to this topic with "universal design" and add it to descriptive text when appropriate.
