Wimba Slide Clarity
12:58 PM EDT 10/27/08
Just wanted to pass along something that was an interesting discovery regarding Wimba today.

If you load slides (we use png conversions for slides first) with the target of Content Frame versus eBoard, you lose much quality. The quality is far better if you load them into an eBoard. I'll experiment further to see if you load them into the eBoard and then turn off the eBoard access to participants if the quality remains. By loading them into an eBoard but turning off participant ability to manipulate the eBoard, it might create the best environment in terms of quality and functionality.

This probably explains why some of the slides we've uploaded are not as clear as expected. By merely changing from Content Frame to eBoard as how to open the slides, the quality is far sharper.

Hi Dawne,
Thanks for the tip on using eboard vs. content frame. I've started uploading png files into the eboard now, and noticed a marked improvement in image quality. Now, if we could only batch upload those files emoticon

With a recent update to our global Wimba settings, you will see a noticeable improvement to quality of PowerPoint slides uploaded in Wimba. Starting in March, all .ppt slides will be automatically converted to .png files when uploaded to Wimba. This is ideal for presentations that contain a large number of images and graphics.

The even better news is that you will no longer need to convert your slides to the .png format and upload them one-by-one to your classroom. Select your content folder in Wimba, click Browse, locate your.ppt file and click Add. All of your slides will be converted to .png files.
